When you are legally carrying a pistol and you are going to drive somewhere and remove your pistol for comfort does it have to be unloaded and stored?

Nope. As long as it's not accessible to kids/felons riding in your car you're perfectly legal. Mine is usually in the console when I'm driving longer than a few minutes. Although unwise, I'm pretty sure it's not even illegal to leave a loaded gun in an unoccupied, locked car.
