I'm on a mission to get my wife comfortable shooting a shotgun for HD purposes. I feel like it's a matter of finding the right gun/load combination but maybe I'm wrong. Does anyone have much experience shooting buckshot from a light .410? Does it kick any less than a 12/20? I've tried every setup I can with my current collection and it's all too abusive for her to want to shoot. I may pick up a 500 in .410 and try that next. Like most women, she's a bit of a baby when it comes to heavy guns and recoil. Still, I'd prefer she was comfortable with a shotgun over her favored .38.

Managed recoil in 12 ga, the second, and more important part about managing recoil, is proper body position and having a gun that fits.

Have you considered a Taurus Judge loaded with .410 HD ammo?
