Continuing a Heritage and Tradition: That is the cause of Project Appleseed, as presented by the Revolutionary War Veterans Association (RWVA) www.appleseedinfo.org . On April 18-19, there will be a record setting number of events and shooters around the nation participating in Appleseed Shoots. There are 52 Appleseed Shoots scheduled in 28 states, with over 2 1/2 miles of firing line and room for over 3000 participants. This is truly an exciting weekend that is a once in a lifetime opportunity.

New England holds the unique distinction of hosting 5 of these events, with room for over 265 shooters.

The RWVA is a 501.c.3, non-profit, all volunteer organization that is dedicated to preserving and passing on traditional rifle marksmanship skills to Americans across the country. In fact, we will be conducting over 300 of our Appleseed Shoots nationwide in 2009, with nearly 10,000 participants expected for 2009.

An Appleseed Shoot is a rifle marksmanship instructional clinic that strives to instruct rifle shooters how to shoot their rifles, safely and accurately, out to 500 yards: the traditional American Rifleman's quarter mile. We do this by conducting two day clinics, stressing safety, range commands and protocol, and the well proven fundamentals of firing an accurate rifle shot. We instruct shooters on the 6 steps to firing a shot, proper sling usage, Natural Point of Aim, proper positions of standing, sitting, kneeling, prone, how to diagnose and correct common shooting errors, and most importantly, how to pass these skills on to others.

We offer our Appleseed Shoots FREE to kids under 21, Women, Military (active, reserve, guard), and elected officials. Appleseed is about preserving our uniquely American Traditions and Heritage and passing on these skills to the next generation. Our experience of over 200 events and nearly 10,000 total participants over the last 3 years has also revealed a very positive trend among Appleseed participants.

Since an Appleseed Shoot is not a competition, and is very inexpensive, we are seeing many people coming to the range that normally do not do so on their own. So the Appleseed Shoots are expanding the shooting community nationwide. These same participants are learning the fundamental skills of shooting their rifle accurately, so not only do they not have to invest in special equipment, but they are gaining skills and confidence that carry over to other shooting disciplines. In fact, many of the folks that attend an Appleseed continue to remain active and carry their new found confidence and skills into High Power shooting, three gun matches and Cowboy action shooting.

The Appleseed Shoots are the fastest growing shooting events in America, with a proven course for improving shooters skills and knowledge, as well as a proven track record of bringing new people to the ranges across our nation. As an added benefit, Appleseed graduates are demonstrating that they become very active volunteers at the clubs/ranges/associations that are around them. They participate in other range activities and actively recruit others to come to the range with them, to share with them the new skills that they have learned. In just the 3 short years that Appleseed has been in operation, we have gathered several hundred Instructors nationwide, and thousands of others that have stepped up to volunteer to help in other areas, both directly and indirectly, of the Appleseed program. These same people will step up in your state, at the locations near the Appleseed Shoot locations, to do the same for organizations such as yours to help continue our Heritage and Traditions.

Here are the 5 New England locations that will be hosting these Historic Appleseed Shoots, with links for additional information about each:

The RWVA would like to ask you to help us get the word out about these events, both to your membership and within your communities. The Appleseed Shoots represent an opportunity to get more Americans positive, safe rifle marksmanship instruction that is very low cost (sometimes FREE), and that requires no special equipment. The Appleseed Shoots offer an alternative to a structured competition to get folks to come to the range, to get that exposure to the fundamentals of firing an accurate shot and to give them the confidence to get involved in other areas of the shooting sports. I trust you can recognize the opportunity to use the Appleseed Shoots in your state to gather more participants in the shooting events you sponsor and support, and to pass on our heritage and traditions to the next generation.

The April 18-19 events are very unique and will feature activities that are not available at any other Appleseed events. Truly a weekend that any shooter will want to be on the range, sharing the Traditions and Heritage of the American Rifleman.

Here is a site that answers many common questions, such as what rifle to bring, how much ammo to bring, what is an appropriate age of children to attend, and a list of what to bring to your Appleseed event: http://www.appleseedinfo.org/as_faq.htm

If you have any questions about these events or about the Appleseed Project, please do not hesitate to reply to this email: [email protected]

Thank you for your support and consideration,

The RWVA Volunteers of New England
