AR-15 Identification

Is there a good source to identify the different types of AR-15's. I don't know very much about them, but I'd love to build one in the future and need an education. Example: in NVISN's thread about his (hot) new AR, SR9 referred to an "A2 build." No clue what that means.
Anyone?

I am 99% on this. The A2 is in reference to the configuration of the build. An "A2" carbine (16") in its pure form has an upper with an integrated carry handle and a 4 position stock.
A2 can also mean an traditional 20" rifle stock with a traditional stock.
