From what I've heard from a friend who owns one, the only problem with them is, and I quote "the magazines must be made from compressed unicorn tears" because of how rare and expensive they are.

Now, the same friend is currently wandering around the SHOT show, and says that Arsenal Arms is importing the VEPR again, so it's possible that mag availability will improve and the prices will go down.

I had a loaner VEPR .223 years ago. Good rifle, very reliable and decently accurate for an AK. I should have bought it back then but there's someting I don't like about shooting AKs...Anyway if you get one, it'll likely last forever.
