.308, better at longer ranges, heavier bullet

.308 Win.
bigger bullet wins... you have a tremendous range of fodder for this caliber, especially if you reload (generally 110 grain to 180 grain).
You have a silhouette rifle, too, if you load some cast rounds.

i'll play devils advocate :twisted:
.223 is cheaper, easier on your wallet you have a insane amount of choices in weights etc, also less recoil..easier to shoot and at most rifle ranges you'll shoot at in CT it'll be just as accurate as .308

:P
