I have a Rock Ola M1 Carbine that has a failure to feed every 3rd or 4th round. the round seems to steer left or right and hits the breach face causing the jam. On occasion the bolt rides up and over the top round in the magazine.

I have tried several GI mags(not the 30 rounders) as well as new ones and still the same thing. Tried several different makers round nose, still no good.
One thing I did notice is the bolt seems a bit loose in the receiver.

Also, before I tried this rifle out it was cleaned and lubed. Overall it is in nice shape and shoots well when it shoots.

Anyone out there have experience with the M1 carbine? Any suggestions?

I had an M1 Carbine years ago and it had feeding issues, too. Sometimes it ran flawlessly, other times with problems. I never did isolate the problem. The next owner said he cleaned the magazines and it worked fine...?

Interesting. I am a bit stumped. I did get a new mag catch and spring as well as a standard GI recoil spring. I hope to get them installed and give it another try.

As I recall, most of my jams were with the round going too vertical out of the magazine and being dented by the bolt face.
At that time I tended to use the SKS which always functioned 100% and I never looked into the issue very closely with the Carbine. Sold it to a friend, explaining my experiences, and he seemed to fix the problem.

BTW, anyone looking for brass, I have about 300 pieces and probably 500-plus assorted reloads in .30 Carbine.
This guy in WI has some .30 Carbine brass at a decent price, too:

Interesting. Most of my jams are the round steering to the left or right and hitting the breech face. I have some time off Thanksgiving week and hope to look at it again.

Did you take the bolt apart to clean it? Problem can be the extractor is not holding the round tight and square to the bolt, which can cause it to miss-feed. Might be "presenting" it at an angle to the chamber sometimes or the round might slip past the extractor. ????

Actually, I did not since I did not have the tool. Maybe I will pick up the tool and give that a try.

Thanks Mike.
