App sent: 5/15/2009
Check cashed: 6/10/2009
Permit issued: 8/12/2009
Permit in-hand: 8/19/2009

From what I've heard, I think I'm very fortunate to have gotten it in less than 90 days from check cashed (which is when the clock really starts). However, the FBI must be totally buried, because with the permit I received a letter basically stating "We are issuing you this permit without having gotten everything back from the FBI yet. If we get back something we don't like, we will revoke your permit." Our tax dollars at work - love it!

Congrats, I wish I had applied for the Utah license. I applied for the Florida license in March and am still waiting. The check was chased in May.

How many states recognize the Utah permit?

A lot. Like 30 states for CT residents (some states honor resident Utah permits, but not non-resident). It's *the* permit to have - no permit will get you more states. I took my Utah class with Joel Demers (http://www.nraclass.com/)

What else was involved? Do you have a list of reciprocal states?

You have to take a short class, get fingerprinted, and send in the application with $65....and wait.
Joel runs a first class operation: he gives you the class, fingerprints you, takes your picture, walks you through the app, notarizes it, etc. You can literally walk out of the class and put the application in the mail.
He can also set you up with CT, Florida, NH, RI, Maine, Pennsylvania, and the elusive Massachussets (yes, you can get a permit from MA if you're willing to pay for it). It's well worth his fee.

As far as reciprocity, it changes a lot. Check out usacarry -- they have cool interactive maps. They're not entirely accurate because like I said before, some states only honor resident permits, so you have to double check state websites.
