Laws regarding firearms
#33284
Connecticut Carry has been contacted by a Waterbury resident asking for help in obtaining her pistol permit. When she took her application to the WPD, they refused it because she did not feel comfortable supplying the ‘letters of recommendation’ that the department demands. These letters and the other extraneous requirements that often accompany them are not only useless, but are clearly outside of established Connecticut law that has been settled law since at least 1968.

The Waterbury resident is a single mother of two bright and well behaved teenage boys. She has been living at her current residence for over 7 years. Over the past few years, the quality of the area has declined drastically. Her once safe neighborhood is now plagued by break-ins, robberies and assaults. Last summer, someone tried to open the back door to her unit. That same day, a unit next to hers was robbed.
A lot of her current neighbors are unemployed and subsist off of government programs. Most have no respect for other people’s property, and as she recently learned, many have a criminal past. At one point, she called Waterbury PD on her next door neighbors who were fighting. The female side of the argument had a 2006 warrant and was arrested that night. After the female was arrested, her boyfriend screamed profanity and threatened her for calling the police.

She has recently spent a lot of money on her residence and is unable to move out of the neighborhood due to financial constraints.

This resident has had bad luck with some of her romantic relationships. One of them was a very violent person and she now has a restraining order against him. He has violent tendencies and repeatedly told her that he would kill her. He was very upset when the relationship ended.

She is employed in the medical industry, but she is hoping to pursue an opportunity to expand her career to provide a better life for her children. She has recently become interested in becoming an armed security guard which means she needs a pistol permit for her career.

In addition to expanding her career opportunities and potentially providing additional income for her, it would allow her to purchase, possess and carry a firearm to protect herself and her family.

This resident contacted Connecticut Carry to request assistance in dealing with the Waterbury Police Department’s behavior and their refusal to take her complete pistol permit application in person. She was upset at the time she made contact with Connecticut Carry because, as she reported, Waterbury PD had been rude and unprofessional to her in the process and she was weary of having to deal with them again. She also has expressed interest to Connecticut Carry in obtaining training that exceeds the state’s requirements. Clearly, she is a model citizen for carrying a firearm and Connecticut Carry is proud to provide support for her in being able to practice her human right to bear arms in defense of herself and her loved ones.

Connecticut Carry would be hard pressed to find a better model of a resident who deserves to have the least amount of hurdles possible in their way of exercising the human right to defense. Waterbury’s refusal to follow state law has hindered her rights already. It is our duty and moral obligation to make sure this does not happen again to her or any other people coming after her.

Connecticut Carry has worked with the resident to get her application submitted to the Waterbury police department and is lining up extended training recommendations to further assist her.

It would be very good thing if a pro 2nd Amendment lawyer pulled a pro bono publico and filed litigation against some of these shitty little 'local authorities' via someone seeking their pistol permit.

Where are all these free 2A lawyers you speak of?

Instead of waiting for them to fall from the sky, we could start getting money together like the other states have done and start paying lawyers to launch these suits and end this nonsense.
