MERIDEN - Standing alongside a half dozen other members of the Meriden Police Explorers program at the Silver City Gun Club, Peter Standish listened as instructors showed him how to handle a .22-caliber pistol. Moments later, he smiled as his efforts resulted in a shot near the center of his target.
