If you live in Plainville or get the Plainville Citizen please keep us abreast of developments. There must be an ordinance public hearing to pass the proposal and we and interested hunters should be there to voice concerns. Our position remains the same: the town has the right to deny permits to hunt on town property, but has no authority to deny landowner rights to allow hunting on their property. DEP has established standards for safe hunting: 500 feet from occupied dwellings, etc. and by legal precedent has established preemption concerning all aspects of hunting. The town has no authority to regulate more stringent criteria. The town attorney should explain to the Town Council the law and precedents. If after public hearing the town passes an ordinance, CCS will be looking for a plaintiff who has been aggrieved to begin a lawsuit.
