WATERBURY — — Police obtained warrants for 80 suspects and seized 32 firearms after conducting raids early Friday morning as a result of a 10-month investigation into drug sales and illegal guns in Waterbury and Naugatuck.
Of the 80 warrants, 65 are for illegal street-level drug sales and 15 are for firearm violations, police said. Many of the recovered firearms had been stolen.
Waterbury and Naugatuck police and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives performed the raids as part of Operation Ceasefire, a portion of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a national initiative that targets gun crime, according to the Project Safe Neighborhoods website.
Operation Ceasefire is also in association with the State's Attorney's Office and the U.S. Attorney's Office.
