MessEleven wrote:Hi guys...new to the forum with a question about WLOPA. I live fairly close, in Southbury, and the site makes the club look great. But are family memberships ever offered either at WLOPA or elsewhere? My wife and daughter are also shooters, and the thought of laying out three times the initiation fees is a bit daunting.
I joined WLOPA last year and have been very happy with the club. Its a fun place to shoot with a good group of members.
I frequently bring quests with me, there have been no problems and my quests have always been welcomed. My family doesn't have much interest in shooting, so I've never thought to ask if there is any discount or family membership packages :?:
There are officers of the club here, maybe they can chime in on this....

I'm just a lowly Range Safety Officer there, but the membership info is online here: http://wlopa.com/membership.htm

Yes, there is a discount for a spouse, and if your daughter is under 18 (under 22 if still in school or under 24 if serving in the military) there is no charge for her as long as you stay a member. Also, depending on when you sign up, there may be a discount on the membership part, since all memberships renew at the same time.

The wife and I are both members and I believe that we saved a couple of bucks that way. I think it was a family membership.
For the kids they offer Junior Memberships. They are real inexpensive, something like $10 but dont quote me on that. The kids do have to do work hours EVERY year, where as the adult memberships only require 10 hours the first year.

The junior membership is free, and they are actually exempt from work hours, though we made Eddie do most of them anyway. He was too young to put him in a trap house loading running machines for an ATA shoot, but he helped stock the houses and load machines (powered down) before a few shoots.

Thanks Chris!
I was not positive about the Junior Membership but thought I had heard a parent talking about it.

Thanks for all the info guys...very helpful. Forgot to mention that, while still in school, my daughter is actually 25...so the Junior option is out. If I can find a sponsor, I guess it makes sense for me and my wife to start.

Sponsorship at the club is the EZ part.
If you do not know someone, the club officers will sponsor you.
The best time to show up would be on Saturday or Sunday form 11 till 3 or 4. You are sure to see someone there.
Just tell whoever you see, that you are considering becoming a member. They will point you in the right direction as far as who to talk to.

An officer will show you around a bit and talk to you about what we offer.

Well that's pretty great. My wife's at a trade show all weekend, so Saturday sounds like a good time to take a trip to the club. Thanks!

Also, I dont know if your daughter ever shoots solo, or if it's always with you and/or your wife, but she can always shoot when you are there as your guest. Same with your wife if she is only an occasional shooter or is only going to shoot with you.

Well that's even better news! Neither my wife nor my daughter ever shoot without me (we enjoy the competition!) and my daughter is an occasional shooter, busy with school and work. If they can be guests, it will work out very well! Thanks, and hopefully I'll see you on Saturday.
