I went to Cabelas tonight to pick up something I bought on New Years eve and I had the worst expereince of my life at the store.

Three guys at the firearm checkout all smiling and laughing, my turn to get service, one walks off into the store right past me, another escorts someone with a firearm to the front of the store and the other guy (Nick, glasses and a beard) heads into the back room. Ten minutes later he comes out. I inquired about the three walking right past me without acknowledgement and the fact that I have been standing here for 30 minutes. His response was " yeah .. that tends to happen" . Nothing else .. that was it. My paper work was all filled out so it is just a matter of calling the state for the approval. I was given the beeper and after waiting 90 minutes in total I get to leave the store.

Mr Ed whatever the store managers name is will hear from me. I drove by three gun stores to but at that store. Even Hoffmans wouldn't make me wait that long.

Cabelas can kiss my ass.

That sounds like experience i had getting my Sigma 40 from there it took 2 1/2 hours between waiting for someone to help me while 3 people were just sitting around BSing then i got help filling out paperwork then i watched them screw around and they just started to do my paperwork and it took like 5 mins from them to do it when they started to work on it. It the last firearm i will ever buy from Cabelas and worst of all after i bought it i found out it was 40 dollars cheaper at Hoffman's. I called Cabelas direct by phone and complained and they told me someone would contact me from East Hartford store and it never happened so i gave up. You would think i would have gotten some kinda call that what did me in horrible Customer service even at the corporate level I mean i know i wasn't buying a expensive gun but i still expect good service

Honestly if i had not filled out my paperwork i wouldn't have waited the the extra hour and 15 mins after i filled it out Had to add this too when i got home i found out they didn't give me they key thing for trigger lock so i had to use a heavy paperclip to take it off because none of the key things i had fit it

I dont even bother looking at firearms at Cabelas any longer. Occasionally I buy ammo but mostly I stick to the fishing tackle.

I really don't understand why anyone would purchase a firearm there I really think there prices suck and I had a very similar experience and all I wanted was a red dot sight that was on sale. I only go there if we will be in the area and want to kill some time, I was at a gun club meeting Monday night and someone there mentioned they heard a rumor (maybe just a rumor no facts were given) they were going to be closing that Cabela's.

I would hate to see them close because I do love being able to see the fishing lures and try the rods and reels in person

I like the store and would not like to see it close. The guy that worked with me when I was looking at the guns was great.

It was just the crowd at work today wouldn't make second string at customer service.

I had my issue on a week day night also. Figured I go then since how busy is a weekday night. They weren't busy but they spent the whole time screwing around while I waited

I'll be completely & brutally honest here. When I picked up my Dane Krag, the guy who walked us out was very nice, and EXTREMELY knowledgeable... the whole way over, he was chatting it up with me about I would go about forming my own cases for it (8x58R are a PaiN... :P ). There's a few others there who are also fairly friendly & helpful.

On the flipside, there are a few at the Gun Library who are complete douchenozzles. There's one in particular who was a COMPLETE prick. Example: There was a fairly early, but very, VERY well worn, completely buggered 16ga. Ithaca Featherlight they wanted $300 for. Asking him what could be done about the price, without blinking he just says that it is what it is & that in so many words that I was stupid for wanting a few bucks off of a pretty... um... beaten shotgun (that has a realistic book value of about $150).

Their prices are outrageous at times. Every once in awhile you stumble on a fantastic deal, but it's fairly rare.

99% of the people wandering the store are Armchair Commandos or Mall Ninjas. Might I say, they are completely rude as well. It's very rarely I've encountered a normal person in Cabelas.

I don't get it either. I've never had "horrible" service at Hoffman's, but you can tolerate a lower level of service when it's offset by low cost (it's like shopping at WalMart). Cabela's has some good salespeople, but those are few and the staff is huge, so it's not like you can really seek them out. Couple that with the fact they are generally to the high side on prices unless it's on sale, and when it's on sale it's marked down to about the same price Hoffman's has it for.

In all honesty, most of the time I go there, is for BP stuff & parts.

That's about it. It's rare I ever buy a gun over there.

I tend to make my gun purchases at establishments other than Cabelas. Their prices, at least when I have been there, seem to be significantly higher that other places.

Supplies and accessories I will go for if I am in a pinch otherwise places like Midway offer better pricing and reasonable shipping.

Cabelas clothing is worth the trip, jackets and outdoor gear seems pretty good.
