Wow, I just got a flier from Centerfire Systems for an ammo special for 5.56mm. Unbelievable, twice what I paid last July and I thought that was a little high.

80 cents a round is a bit much.

Looks like getting into re-loading was a good move.

Friend of mine picked up some Hornday 55gr 223 heads and Reloader 10X I reloaded about 500 rounds for him. They functioned flawlessly out of his AR and the best part was only uses 22gr of the powder. So the powder went along way.

I have dies to reload it, just have not gotten that far yet. I have been saving my brass and have powder too. Have not looked at the availability of lead for this caliber yet. Looks like you found some though.

I told him he had to find his own supplies with way things are now and fact I really wasnt getting jack out of the deal but helping him out. I wasnt doing the leg work of running around hunting for heads powder and primers for his stuff. I guess he got bullets from Cabelas online the powder and primers from the Outpost near Mohegan sun casino

If you're talking cast bullets in 5.56mm, I don't know if that's very wise; they're probably almost non-existent anyways. Even in a bolt gun they're hard enough to handle being so small and lubing and gas checks... what a mess (can be a bit wearisome at least).
Now, if you have cast bullets in .224", how about some .30 caliber sabot loads for them?

I was using Lead as a generic term. I would use FMJ to loading 5.56.

ok, got another rude awakening. A month ago I saw 7.62x54r going for around $80 for 440 round tins or $160 for a 880 round crate. It is now up to $200 for the 880 round crate. Guess that threat to halt imports of guns and ammo has already effected prices.

I am reloading 7.62x54r now. Using 308 heads 150gr and whatever powder i can scrap up to be honest. I have tried W760 it wicked dirty and makes the brass rainbow kinda a bad powder for this i guess. and I have tried some with IMR4895 works good but i only have like 1/8 of a 1lb jug left. Going to try Reloader 15 see how that works. I guess i got the die set for Christmas just at the right time. Seems now I can reload it cheaper then surplus.

W760 does similarly in 8x57mm for me.
If you want .310" + diameter bullets, keep an eye out for bargain-priced 7.65x53 Belgian/Argentinian surplus. They tend to be about .314" Usually they are pretty tarnished, but you can salvage the bullets...

You reloading steel cases?

No mostly Priv boxer empties. Seems I run into alot of newbies at the ranges with Cabela Nagant speacils shooting Priv ammo and tossing the brass

Look for the .217" berdan-primed brass, if all else fails (most surplus has the extra-large primer; 6.5mm). That's perfectly good to reload, too. Maybe a bit more work and expense for the primers, but doable.
It's really not that big of a deal to buy a 100 count bag of new brass, if necessary, to get started reloading for the Mosin. For that matter, buy 5 boxes of Prvi Partizan ammo and save your brass...or let "newguy" grab it!
