Reloading, Gunsmithing, and Ammo

So anyway, I have a Hi-point 995 (the Carbine) I just bought not too long ago. It's fun, don't get me wrong, but I'm still a little worried about one thing:

I can't legally buy the ammo (I'm only 18yrs. old), but am I allowed to possess/transport it... or am I committing a huge no-no?

Thanks again everyone.

Does federal law place any age restriction on ammunition sellers and purchasers?

Under federal law, it is illegal to sell (1) long gun ammunition to anyone under age 18 and (2) handgun ammunition to anyone under age 21 (18 USC 922(b)(1), 27 CFR 478. 99(b)). According to BATF, a licensee may sell interchangeable ammunition such as a . 22 cal. rimfire to a person less than age 21 (but age 18 or older) if the dealer is satisfied that the ammunition is for use in a rifle. If the ammunition is intended for use in a handgun, the 21-year-old minimum age requirement applies.

I'd figure the latter part of the paragraph would apply to you and your Hi-Point, but what do I know.
You'll grow out of this soon enough and by age 21 you'll probably be a criminal by virtue of owning any firearm. Bring the carbine to Meriden on the 12th and I'll have some 9mm that you can shoot there on the premises.

You can buy rifle ammo. If you are transporting, and have the ammo separate from the rifle, like the book says, you are good to go.

Have fun, shoot safe.

When you go to WalMart they ask you what it is for. Simply say rifle. You'll be golden.

nvisn: I tried that (at the Torrington Walmart). Still didn't fly (and the older woman usually working the desk knows me). If the computer doesn't prompt it... they can't sell it.

This being said, every time I'm with mommy dearest... I walk up with her and pick out a box. She buys it, everything's hunky-dory. My concern lies with running through Torrington or Canton... where the municipal forces are... less-than-friendly. Staties have never given me a problem about anything.
