How long should a person hold on to paperwork regarding a sale of a firearm to a private buyer also if the firearm was traded in to a dealer?

I would keep mine forever (just me), regardless of what the state says or recommends. I think it's 20 years or something like that. This is just from what I have heard, though. Please don't qoute me!

Not that I'm gonna get rid of my paperwork any time soon , I was going through old receipts goin back about 25 years and the thought came up wondering how long the gov. wants you to hold on to paperwork
Then I thought 25 years !!!!!
