PUBLIC HEARING 02/22/11---Public Safety and Security Committee
The Public Safety and Security Committee will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at 12:00 P.M. in Room 1D of the LOB. Please submit 40 copies of written testimony to Committee staff at the time of sign up. Testimony submitted after sign-up may not be distributed until after the hearing. Sign-up for the hearing will begin at 10:00 A.M. in Room 2A of the LOB in Hartford. The first hour of the hearing is reserved for Legislators, Constitutional Officers, State Agency Heads and Chief Elected Municipal Elected Officials. Speakers will be limited to three minutes of testimony.
OPPOSE
S.B. No. 1017 AN ACT CONCERNING THE CONSOLIDATION OF THE DEPARTMENT OF EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AND HOMELAND SECURITY AND THE BOARD OF FIREARMS PERMIT EXAMINERS INTO THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY, AND TRANSFERRING RESPONSIBILITY FOR AMUSEMENT PARK OVERSIGHT TO THE DEPARTMENT OF CONSUMER PROTECTION
Why we oppose - This hearing is extremely important to Connecticut gun owners and pistol permit applicants alike. In 2010, another bill was proposed to the Legislature with the same intent, to move the administration of BFPE under the Department of Public Safety. As many of us tesified last year, this is essentially the same as "Putting the Fox In Charge of the Henhouse".
The Board of Firearms Permit Examiners is often the last avenue of recourse for people to be heard over both denials and revocations. In order to ensure that our right to a fair and objective hearing is maintained, it is important that we oppose SB 1017
Please join those of us that will be attending, or if you cannot attend, you may submit testimony to the Public Safety and Security Committee here: http://cga.ct.gov/PS/
Bill Tracking can be found on the CGA website here: http://www.cga.ct.gov/aspx/cgapublicbil ... track.aspx
