I got a friend that works with me on the subase, but lives in RI. Does anyone know the actual law if I wanna go to RI or if he wants to come to CT to go to the shooting range?

Oh yeah, i forgot to mention i called Hoffmans and they said it was a gray area if I were to escort him into CT to shoot, being that I have the CCW, but the firearm is in his name. Were not carrying it on our persons, it will be in the trunk with ammo separate.

So I called today about going into RI as a CT resident. The DOJ I think it was, for RI said, "if you're military all you need is military id and you can shoot at their ranges." To purchase you need one of their "blue cards" and there is still a 2 week waiting period when you purchase. But to actually get the blue card is literally walk in and walk out. Im not sure about long guns though. Anyways, as long as I had to wait for the town of groton to finally get my CCW, I think ill be purchasing everything here in CT. If I can find a range closer to groton in RI then I may be going there instead of driving about an hour to the closest one.

J:

Although not public shooting ranges, you might look into Quaker Hill R&G and the Mystic R&G. I know each club has an indoor range, but they may be limited to rim-fire and/or pistol only (I just don't know the specifics).

Niantic, Bozrah and Groton (Al Harvey Road, Stonington) might be worth a look, too. FWIW, Bozrah has a tag sale coming up on the 12th of this month.

Ledyard has a couple of clubs, too. Perhaps members at these clubs have dealt with cross-border activities and can shed some light on the laws.

I've shot at the Quaker Hill R&G, I believe it is a member only type thing. I went with a member of that club. If you find anywhere good to shoot around Groton please share the wealth.

There's an active club just east of me in RI that holds "public welcome" clays most Sundays (I can't say as to rifle and pistol activities):

QH does hold some public matches (Charity Pin Shoot and Non-Autoloading Mil-Surp are two that I've attended w/o any member hosting), but I suspect general range use is as a guest only.
