Leupold VX-3

I have these on my Socom II and seemed to be having difficulty zeroing in at the 100 yard mark. Anyone have any experience with these? The elevation had it high as hell, so I kept turning it down. With it completely turned, I had to a little low to get it on the target paper. I've shot through Leupolds before but the only adjustments were made while shooting out past 500 meters. I've got more experience with a 1.5 ACOG than these. Maybe its just the wrong optics for the rifle?
