Reloading, Gunsmithing, and Ammo

Well after 50 round on the last trip to the range I was trying to figure out why the gun wouldn't go from Safe to Fire and then Back to Safe. Looking at the gun I noticed it seemed as the pin that holds pressure on the safety seemed to be out of the norm.

The I bring it home to strip it down to frame and notice that the whole piece that holds the spring and the two pins wobbled loose. After doing some reading this is pretty common problems and one of the weaknesses of the .45ACP frames.

I will be needing to buy a new 1911 Retaining Pin Holder, Crimping tool, Pin Hole protector and I also need a new Slide Release.

So 100.00 in parts and tools here I come! Lovely!

Ouch. How many rounds through it, total?

I wouldn't be happy to be in that situation, but on the flip side, if you enjoy tinkering, it's fun to have a job to do.

Got the parts and the 2 tools for the repair. Very easy job to do and since then it has been fine. So, you 1911 guys...watch out for this potential problem.

You could have sent it to Springfield Armory, they would have fixed it for free
