Jeff please keep us posted on how you make out with this. I have a JLD 91 but do not have any issues with the sights even though they are tac welded on.

The CETME Rear sight has one "open" sight and 3 "peep" sights , the gun shoots so high that I have to use the open one and crank up the front sight .
The open sight is so wide and crude I hate it ! I wonder if there is enough meat on the reciever to mount a HK style ? I cant weld it myself so hopefuilly someone knows something about this .

from what i could find online..thats the only way you can do it, grind off the old sight and then weld a HK base back in its place, if you do this..mike at oxford armory does a fantastic job of refinishing..hes of course in oxford CT and also has an FFL so you can ship things to him too, www.oxford-armory.com

I ground off the old sight and polished that part of the reciever , I wonder now if its OK to silver solder the base or does it have to be spot welded ?

wow, your brave, spot welding would be stronger but at a guess i think silver solder would work fairly good as its not a load bearing or heat area

I would try the solder method first to make sure that the alignment is correct. You could tac weld it later.

Every time I start a "simple" project I find more challenges .
as for the sight - The gunsmith reccomended a setaline torch type of "soldering" in spots instead of arc welding because of the possibility that the metal was fatigued from the first arc welding , he said silver solder would work too .
since he was willing to 'weld' it , I decided to let him do it rather than Me silver solder it .

Now the second project - The CETME sporter plastic stock has a modified metal framework , its not the same as the original G3 /HK or Spanish CETME .
I had to re-drill a 3/4 " hole for the buffer assy., grind down the diameter of the buffer and retrofit the wood stock to the newer metal .
Now its just fine and will POP in the reciever when I get it back from the gun smith .

Here you go :

http://www.geocities.com/elmcitygun/cetme3.jpg

I accidentaly chipped the wood on the buttstock but it still looks pretty good , old / military look .

I may win a brand new CETME American made wood set on Gunbroker.com and sell the G3 set pictured with the metal included .
Turns out that the G3 forarm fit perfectly .

The HK sight came out great and works great .

The Muzzel brake is an American made (Texas) part that is machine pressed on (CT legal) .

Correction on my last post : To use the G3 HK stock, you only have to modify the wood and use all the metal works from the CETME sporter , you need to fabricate a square washer and do some drilling but its not rocket science .

Putting the original Spanish sling on the G3 requires a rivet or other suitable hardware on the sling itself .

If you want to put a sling on the cheap plastic stock that comes with the Century Arms CETME Sporter , you just get a 1 inch piece of leather sling and a metal loop , use 2 rivets into the plastic stock and you are good to go .

Jeff,

Are you missing the windage screw? In the first picture, it looks like you don't have the windage screw installed?

I was wondering what that other leftover screw was for (?) How and where does it go ?
Does it look like anything else is missing ?

I hope it doesnt go into the base because its welded to the frame .

I just found a site with a picture of an HK sight ; http://hkspecialist.net/images/hkrear1.jpg
Does that look right ?

Not knowing what exactly you had welded on, but on an HK there is a screw in the back of the sight if you are looking down at the top of the rifle. If you take this large screw out you can remove the whole rear sight. The windage screw goes into a piece that is welded onto the top of the rifle so you can turn the screw on the right side and adjust the windage. (You would actually need to lossen the main screw that I first described so you can adjust windage.) You need to put the windage screw on before the rear sight is on the rifle because if you turn over the rear sight you will see where the screw fits into the recess.

On HK's there is a piece that is welded to the top that the sight sits on. I don't know if this is the piece you had welded on or did he weld on the whole rear sight and now you cannot adjust windage? Also be aware that to adjust elevation, you need the special HK tool to do so.

Looking at the picture it looks like he welded a piece that the sight sits on like HK's but I am not sure. Do you have the large screw on the top of the rear sight and if you take this off, will the sight with the drum part come off?

Sorry I hit submit before I was finished. The sight picture that you have from Gordon Miller is actually from and HK 416 which is a piston driven upper for an M16 rifle. The sight itself is very similar to a regular G3. The screw that you see on the side is the screw that you are missing.

When you turn the rotary drum part, does it "click" into each position(1,2,3,&4)? If it does, you should be all set. Nothing else looks to be missing from the picture.

Its not the same as the picture but it did come with that little screw .
There is a BIG screw that holds the sight in the base , this can be loosened and the whole sight moves right to left .
This all came from a kit sold as a replacement for the CETME 'Flip' sight , had a base of unknown origin and a standard HK91 sight with screws and washers ..
