I am looking to start shooting in a club with some matches, but noting too competitive. I am not sure which type I am interestd in, action shooting, combat, etc. I am in Norwalk, but do not mind driving. Please let me know of any clubs or groups.

I'm sure as soon as CTSixshot rolls out of bed, farts and has a cup of coffee he will be posting a long list of clubs that offer "action shoots".
There are a number of different clubs that hold shoots and they should be starting up very soon, so hang out on the forum and keep an eye out.

Hmmmmm... I guess I'm obliged to reply now!

blind1587: look over the events that I've posted elsewhere on this site...mostly under "Announcements", some under "Pistol" or "Action Shooting".

There's little to my knowledge happening in Fairfield County. The Bridgeport Shooting Range has a Tuesday night competition according to their website. I've never shot down there, so I can't speak from experience. http://www.bridgeportshootingrange.com/compshooting.php

The Bridgeport Rifle Club has public bullseye matches (they used to, at least, Wednesday evenings, I believe), but cast bullets only. 9 Old South Avenue, Stratford

If you want centerfire shooting along the lines of IDPA or combat/action style, join me up at the Harwinton R&G Club starting 19 April 09. http://harwintonrodandgun.com/ht_2009_pistol.htm

There are others, but the ones I frequent the most besides Harwinton are Berlin (Mattabassett RPC), New Haven Sportsman's Club (Guilford), Quaker Hill R&G (Oakdale), Northwest CT R&G (Rt 7, Cannan), and Chris' Indoor Range (US 1, Guilford).

All of these venues offer these shoots to the public and they can be done without commitment to regular attendance. That is, shoot when you feel like it. You aren't in a league format where attendance is mandatory in order to stay rated.

Public open house type gala at the Meriden Club this Saturday, too. See hayes1966 post about this under "Announcements": St. Jude’s Shoot A Thon Meriden Rod and Gun Club 2009 - March 14th

Mattabassett RPC has a centerfire match this Saturday, 14 March 2009; 0900 hours. Pistol/plates first followed by rifle/pins?

...there will be an MRPC shoot this Saturday, 3-14-09 at 9:00am. CF pistol followed by CF rifle of some sort. Open to the public, but all non-members pay $10 per event, meaning $10 pistol and also another $10 rifle.
